72 petrol SWB fuel pickup filter?

Hi all. The mesh on the end of the fuel pickup pipe in my S3 had cracked so i pulled it off to make it easier to clear a blockage from the pipe. Now i cant find a replacement unit.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find either a new pickup or new filter mesh? Or can i connect a filter sock off a modern car to the pipe?

My tank appears to have a separate sender unit, but all of the pickup pipes ive found have attached sender units.

I'll find a photo of the pickup qhen i get a chance.

    Cheers

    Dan

    Hello from Brisbane.

You can source both the feed pipe/mesh filter or the filters alone new from sources in the UK. John Craddock supplies the former and I saw a small notice for the latter in a recent issue of Classic Land Rover. I am travelling just now but could try to find the info on the filters when I get back home.

I couldn't comment on local availability of these parts, but some of the usual suspects - e.g. Roverparts, British Off Road - might be worth a check. Possibily a used item from a wreck might be suitable - the Ho Hars may have something in their pile.

    Cheers,

    Neil

I also saw a brief note in Classic Land Rover that someone in the UK was making them.
They are soldered to the pickup tube so possibly not available as a spare. If you can source some fine brass gauze it's something you might be able to make....but I bet there's an art to it !

Found them on ebay Land Rover Series 2/II/3/III fuel pickup pipe NRC6905 repair gauze/mesh/filter | eBay

Thanks guys. I didnt think to look on ebay. Which is weird, cos I'm often on ebay.

Now that i know they're replaceable i might try and find some mesh and make one up myself.

    Thanks

So I've found some mesh to buy:

VN54 EXTRA-FINE BRASS MESH SCREEN 150x150mm VETERAN VINTAGE HORN PETROL FILTER | eBay

The mesh on the original pickuplooks pretty fine so i thought the VN54 would be closest.

When soldering this together, is typical lead solder suitable? Or will it dissolve in the fuel? I have heard of it being done, but just wanting to check with those much cleverer than I
