Check the fuel pick up in tank , blow some air through as a quick check .
Does the Vacumn advance work on distributor ?
Timing right - within a degree or two is okay for this exercise .
Float level correct - better to be a bit low than high if trouble shooting .
Plugs are sparking - nice strong spark .
Are they in correct sequence 1 2 3 4 or whatever is required .
Valves are correct - ie closing completely - lack of compression , these are fairly low stock .
Go for it !
I experienced similar problem some years back with my Ser. 3 ex military replaced all electrics, timing correct, vacuum advance , fuel system ok theoretically everything right start it take it for a drive all ok. Next time I went to use it hard to start and run like a heap of worn out ****
I tracked the problem down to the distributor shaft bushes being worn out Its not an easy job to replace them, It can be done in house by removing the sump It took me about 3 days to do it AND A LOT OF LANGUAGE
Best of luck I hope I am wrong for your sake

Did you replace the condensor, they can fail for no reason at all. I have bought new ones & they have been faulty. Can cause all these problems. I sold a fully reconditioned motor to a guy , a week after he put it on his car it started playing up . He had 3 mechanics look at it , told him yhey had fixed it & he didn't get home before it played up. I drove from Brisbane to Malany to have a look at it , went through every thing without success, replaced the condensor . It is now 2 years & still running fine. The motor I sold him was complete including reconditioned carby's , extractors , distributor with new condensor , rotor & new sports coil. The condensor had failed after one weeks use. Also check the earth in the distributor, from the base plate to the body. & check the points have not closed up & are still set at 15 thou, the rubbing block can wear quite quick some times. I remember when I worked for BMC you could do a tune up some times & the owner would be back the next day with car hard tomstart & running rough , just had to open up the points gap & check the timing & all would be good.
I'd check for fuel starvation - maybe something in the tank is being picked up, saw this happen just recently to another members vehicle.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Thanks everyone, I will start to have a look, I do wish there was a mobile mechanic round here!
All over it everyone, Paul is coming around for a chat sometime, he lives around the corner from us
