Positively, definitely, make a jig first.
Assuming that the chassis is not damaged, you can use a jig running from the rear spring-hanger-eye to the front one. I turned two shafts to closely fit in the eyes – with no bushes in them – and welded them to a length of 10mm flat bar. The hanger can then be aligned to witness marks left on the chassis, whilst the jig takes care of the distance.
