Have done it on a series 1 but no photos. as long as they all line up it should work fine. I just had 2 pieces of wood that would sit there.
Heading up to Cooma this year and will set the Oz tent up for the long stay
I was wanting to make up some sort of removable bed with mud board /ply and hinged in the middle for the overnights on the way up
It would somehow sit on the dash , the bulkhead and the tub rails in the back
I might even make a couple of screw in legs or something
The idea would be to set it up for overnight and put it on a roof rack in the day
Before I re invent the wheel, has anyone done this before ?
Photos?

I've seen a few on the internet that are made with a board from back to front, with a hinge just behind the rear bulkhead to allow the extra 'leaf' to fold back from the passenger seats when driving. Usually supported by screw-on legs at the front. Some I've seen rest on the dash but I'm not sure how strong it is in the S3 so would go the legs to the floor. Obviously some sort of support frame at the rear as well. I think this would be ideal for camping and is what I'm planning on doing. You can leave the platform in the rear and lash luggage on top.
Gromt on here has a Series I - with a nice setup. He probably has photos in his thread - hopefully he will be along shortly...

Not sure how the bulkhead & 'dashboard' line up on a later Series (I could wander down the garden & look I suppose). The first owner made up a series of parts that allow a bed to be installed from dash to tailboard.

Saw a Series III at Cooma in 2008 where a cover had been made to go over the raised 'catflap' so you slept from bulkhead to the end of the lowered tailgate.

Just need someone to run up the cover and some way to attach to the back of the vehicle then you could use a stretcher/swag/mattress on the floor.

That last idea is what I used when I owned a swb Series 2, but I just used a tarpaulin. All of mine since 1965 though have been lwb!

Great minds etc.
Was thinking of this sort of setup only a few days ago. Amazing what ones thought processes can project.

Hello from Brisbane.
One small downside - there nearly always is one - to fitting beds inside Series Land Rovers, especially 88” trucks, is the condensation that usually builds up on the inside of the unlined roof. Probably more of an issue in colder seasons and regions (UK comes to mind).
From all accounts the unwanted shower of drips can be moderately annoying. Perhaps no different to driving in the rain anyway?
Lining the underside of the roof seems to be the standard solution.
Cheers,
Neil
Great work team
Thanks
