Made up some new footwells today, but I'll get to that.
After taking the tub off and the front end apart, I gave the chassis a good clean inside and out. I poured some concentrated soap into all the holes of the chassis and into the outriggers. Stuck the gurney into every hole I could and fired away, a thick reddy Brown soapy paste bubbled out of the holes, eventually the water cleared out after some heavy spraying.
I then cleaned off any flakey paint then gave the whole thing except for the rear crossmember with KBS chassis paint. It's a 3 part kit degreaser, primer/converter then the paint. It's self leveling and dries rock hard it's good stuff. I didn't clean the chassis up too much, I left all the weld splatter and imperfections it just adds character.
I cleaned up the rear axel and springs and painted them also, looking back I regret not taking the springs apart and re oiling them instead. I will probably strip them back one day and go that way about it. Overall the chassis came up good, a few spot I need to go over like under the bump stops. And a few other spots like inside the spring hangers, the bulkhead brackets and on top of the gearbox crossmember.
I cut into the rear crossmember a bit to investigate the damage, I decided I'm going to repair it. I'm gonna cut the face off and re weld a new piece, same with the bottom and behind. It's not the worst and I can beef it up a bit in the process.
I'm gonna have to get out and take more photos now, I havnt taken any in a while and have done plenty of work since
