Thread: Which box is best?

Hi.
I’m a newbie here as you’ll work out when you read my post - lol.

Three boxes came with my S3:
-One that’s in the car and pops out in 2nd
-One that has a suffix A under the Serial number. Complete box.(S3?). Condition unknown.
-One that is missing a couple of parts and has no serial number (S3 mated to 2a TC?). Condition unknown.


I would like to rebuild one of the two latter boxes so I can keep driving the car until it’s rebuilt box is ready to install. Of the last two, which one should I rebuild? Gears turn okay. Kinder surprise?

I would drop the oil from the one in the Landy.
See what comes out. Bits of teeth, fine brass bits in the oil, Broke spring, from syncro's
Is an overdrive fitted ? loose main shaft nut can cause a few problems.
I got my gearbox bits from these guys, for my S3 box.
