    Ex-UK 88 inch Series 3.

    Hi,

I've been around AULRO for a good few years now. But this is my first Series, purchased last weekend.
    20190323_174555.jpg20190323_162502.jpg20190323_122121.jpg
It features a 2.25 Diesel engine, Fairey overdrive and locking front hubs.

It's a 1973 88 inch basic spec hardtop. One family owned it from new until I purchased it. The father of the gentleman I purchased it from was the original owner. When his father passed, his mother immigrated to Australia, bringing the Landy with her possessions in a container. It them became the son's property.

I'm no expert on Series, but it seems very original to me. Never had a radio, extra gauges, messed with wiring etc. Everything works!

I suspect it started life with a drop down tailgate and lift up door and the "wagon" style rear door is a later edition.

The firewall is very good. The chassis needs some work. It has some suspect looking patches. One outrigger has largely rusted away and the rear cross-member has a few decent holes. Worst of all is some holes in the vicinity of the passenger rear shocker mount and leaf shackle. Not sure if the chassis is savable, or I will need to find a replacement. I'd like to save the original chassis if possible.

I'm itching to get into restoring it, but I have a few hurdles in my way. That is, other cars that need to be fixed first, and a house to finish.

The timing of this purchase wasn't great. But I am a sucker for a UK import, so I just had to buy it.

    Cheers,

Welcome aboard - about time you showed up on here...

You probably already know - but there are various chassis repair section available (rear cross member, out rigger, etc.)

Cant wait to read up on the build as it happens.

    Cheers,

    Thanks mate,

I haven't posted on AULRO much, althogh I have read a LOT.

Not much I can say about the Freelander 2. It just keeps working!

Loving finally having a Series of my own.

    Cheers,
    Brett.
