theres an oem lap only option you fit up.

for the middle seat row (facing forwards) you can use the belts from any series/stage 1/early county station wagon they are all the same. when the outer belts went to auto retractables you need to get them inspected as the mounts changed.

if you have one thats got the 2-3 a side inwards facing over the rear sponsons and want the seatbelts for them..... ummmm, good luck?
Yeah I meant the second row sorry for the confusion. I think I'll have to have an engineer make suggestions on how to put seatbelts on the sid inwards facing ones.

    Steve,
I'll dig out pictures of the mounts fitted to the wagon I parted out.
I think it had lap belts in the second row, it was an early Series III and front belts were mandated before rears in VIC.

My Defender has third row inward facing seats with lap belts. The issue is bolting to aluminium so there are plates both sides to spread the load, nothing fancy from memory. The storage system in the back makes it difficult to get pictures but I'll try.

I have a similar issue with my Dormobile (which doesn't legally need seatbelts).
The front seat upper mounts were holes drilled through the B pillar which look very dodgy but the wagon I parted out came with upper front mounts that fix in the top front of the rear door opening so I'll use those instead. Lower mounts in the centre are easy and the outer ones by the door are a standard part.

I think I have the rear pair sorted except for the lower mount by the door, It will have to bolt through the sideframe somewhere/somehow.
Upper mount could be a SWB hardtop bracket Hardtop Corner Bracket - RH - Paddock Spares

I'll try and track down the pictures later.

    Colin

As for 'engineering'........... they were done when you purchased the vehicle weren't they ?

    My similar vehicle

    Hello Steve,
By beloved '71 Series 3 station wagon (aka Tallulah), chassis number 93700372C, probably an import, has 2 front rows and 6 seatbelts.

The previous owner had an unreasonable stickler for a roadworthy inspection who had unreasonable demands for the row 2 seatbelt mounts. So, i think he removed them and told the inspector that this vintage only needed row 1 seat belts. Post- apoplectic fit, the inspector accepted this rationale.

About 5 years ago, I had to replace the row 1 seat belt webbing because of age and sun damage. They are fixed, not inertia reel belts. Repco sourced me left and right fixed row 1 belts, clearly designed for cars of this vintage and I bodged a replacement for the lap belt for the centre seat using belts from a wrecker for cargo restraints for my trailer... how kind.

My clutch and gearbox are out at the moment for a wash and blow-dry, so if you would like photos of the mounts, just ask as they are all very accessible. You should have the necessary special fittings for the row 1 left and right, top and bottom mounts, the top one in particular looks like a special casting.

    Cheers, Mike

    I've attached some photos.
In the first you'll see the top mount for the front belt (excuse the kids playing inside). It's a fabricated bracket (galvanised) with some long bolts to go through the B pillar.
There are some black plates in the centre behind the front seats for the front centre lap belt and inner mounts for the two outer front belts. These were from memory plated either side and I remember a fixing to the chassis but no photos unfortunately.

The next shows the lap/sash fixing back to the galvanised capping for the outer, second row..

The next shows roughly where the outer fixing for the second row is.
I cannot remember where the inner mounts are for the second row, they possibly mounted through the floor but maybe the rear tub (which I no longer have). The Dormobile is different because there are only two seats in the second row so I'll make something.

Seatbelts can be sourced from Paddocks in the UK very cheaply compared to buying local, and yes they are AU/NZ approved.
Static Lap Belt for front middle seat as well as additional rear seats such as bench seats and individual rear seats. - Paddock Spares
Intertia Lap and Diagonal Belt for outer front seats of Series hardtop vehicles. - Paddock Spares

My only complaint about the belts is that the inertia reel uses a 'stalk' that bolts to the floor whereas the lap sash uses a section of belt. I want the inertia reel but the stalks may get in the way when folding the seats down into a bed. I have Paddocks (Securon) belts in Wallit and they work fine, I did also get an inertia lap belt but this doesn't seem to be AU/NZ approved so I haven't used it.

Steve, if you want to go through the mounts etc. let me know and you can come down and take a look. I also have the Paddock belts 'in stock'.

My row 1 seat belts are the same as Gromit’s, but I have 3 separate seats in row 2. Some mounts are the same there, from memory.

if you still have the brackets in the vehicle, I’m pretty sure that it’s an easy fix for you to do. You can use photos of mine to show that the original installation was approved, with a bit of luck!

    Hi Colin

So it looks like there were only lap belts in the second row. I thought that they had to be lap sash on the outer seats.

The front mounts look the same as the ones in mine.

I’m going to order the belts from Paddocks they seem to be a reasonable price.

I’ll take you up on the offer to come down and have a look at the mounts.

    Cheers

    Steve

If you can get some photos of the second row that would be great.

    Cheers

The second row outers were lap/sash but the upper mount was in the capping behind the seat which is really a bit low.

I'm out tomorrow at the Historic Commercial Vehicle rally in Yarra Glen, home some nights during the week or come down next weekend.

I see what you mean by the Lap Sash mount for the second row.

Next weekend could work. It doesn't look like I have anything on.
