    O ring size

    Hello from Brisbane.

I'm looking for the dimensions of two O-rings.

I'm presently reassembling the steering swivels on my 1975 88" and thought I had all of the necessary parts to hand. I probably have them lying around somewhere but can't find the two O rings that fit the lower steering pins - part 531433. I don't seem to have the originals off the truck either for comparison.

The nearest reliable stockist of Series parts is an eighty km round trip away at Redcliffe, so I'd rather try to get them from a local outfit that handles O rings. The ENZED outlet in Rocklea had the right overall diameter rings but they were way too thick.

Can anyone tell me the correct size of those (531433) rings please? Even better, someone located somewhere within 5km of the Brisbane CBD who might stock them?

    Cheers,

    Neil

Neil, If you take the pin & housing to any Bearing Co , there are a few around Rocklea area they should be able to measure everything & supply O rings . Other than that I am suer MR or British Off Road will put them in the post.

    Wayne,

    Hello and thanks.

Yes I could get them posted but was looking for a more local solution.

I did take the pins to ENZED and the only ones they had were too thick.

I’ll keep looking before I take the postal option.

    Cheers,

    Neil

I might have some 'in stock' they are only a few cents from an O-ring supplier.

Most good O-ring suppliers want the pin & the housing and also want to know whether it's a static or dynamic seal. There's a company locally that supply O-rings & seals if I don't have them.

Neil, as I said the bearing company's are more likely to have the O rings , they will have a large selection in different sizes & thickness. but you will need to take a pin & housing so they can measure the pin & housing . If you are lucky they may also have a listing for them , I have bought bearings & seals from bearing Co's for LR's by just telling them what & were they are for. Try CBC Bearings 3/142 Beatty Rd Archerfield. But make sure you take the parts with you.

    Wayne,

    Hello again and thanks.

Yes, I had intended to check a bearing service but had another call for hose O rings from ENZED, so decided to try them while I was there. I’ll take both fittings to a bearing specialist later this morning.

The main “problem” with sourcing parts from the two Land Rover specialists mentioned earlier is that the bulk of what they deliver these days is Britpart. Love or hate that brand, I’ve been caught out too many times with bits that didn’t fit or didn’t look like they should be fitted to not want to look elsewhere. Especially for jobs that involve pulling internal assemblies apart.

    Cheers,

    Neil.

    Colin,

Hello and thanks for the offer. Appreciated.

However, I found the originals from when I pulled the hubs apart and replaced them at my local bearing service this afternoon.

I needed new seals and bearings for my box trailer - so, added the O rings onto the list.

    Cheers,

    Neil
