    series 3 axle upgrade etc

    Good day all , thanks for adding me Just bought a 1972 series 3 . Probably be towing a car trailer at some point , but the original axels were a bit weak apparently ? So any upgrade suggestions ? And anything other recommended up grades ? overdrive maybe ? thanks :-}

    With sensible driving they are usually ok.
    Power increases with larger engine transplants etc can increase the risk.
    I am led to believe that Land Rover addressed this problem, possibly after the introduction of the six cylinder engine.
    The "Plus 35" (35% stronger axles) upgrade which was introduced into the Series 2A production run, have 24 splines, as opposed to 10 splines, which in theory is supposed to distribute the load on the axle in a more even way.
    Salisbury rear diff assembly may have been part of the upgrade too.
    Hopefully someone will have more information on this.
