With regards to timing not great with technical knowledge here but did the basic timing setup by putting a screwdriver in CYL 1 and when on top of stroke marked the lobe on dizzy and started that point as 1 and then all spark leads lined up as per the firing order.

You may have it 180° out. You have TDC no problems but it could have been TDC on the exhaust stroke. If you have the rocker cover off then get it back up to #1 TDC and check if both valve rockers on #1 are loose, that is not pushing on the top of the valves. that's how you know it's the correct cyl. Then time it to that. 180° out is easy to do, everybody does it sometime.
