The relay the OP shows is a LR part.
It's off a RR classic of some type. I can't find if it's a VM or Tdi model, but definitely LR.
From what I could find out about it, it's a timer relay, just cant' find any info on the wiring for it. My guess would be that the P terminal may be the power to the glow plugs and the S terminal is the signal (say from ign) to start the timer sequence.
I lived in Melb, and now in the country, so we get some cold days and some warm days, as in for starting the Tdi.
On a cold day after about 10hrs of cooldown, my Tdi won't start easily, and needs glowplugs, or may need a couple of attempts to fire up.
With glow plug routine, she starts in a fraction of a sec. without will need a min of 30sec of cranking or sometimes two shots at 20-30sec each time. I don't like it, just depletes battery and stresses starter for no reason, so I've always done the glow plug routine.
