New to Defender land! - Just picked up a 2013 110 and was checking the fluid levels. It has 206k on the clock. There was transmission fluid all over the gearbox and transfer case. Transfer case fluid looked fine - a dribble from the drain plug, which I believe is OK. I undid the transmission fill plug and a ton of fluid came out. Drained the rest and it was just under 4 liters - but it was "clean". On checking I need to put 2.2 litres back in. Would this have contributed to the oil leaks?
Should I go to the mechanic who did the last service and advise them that these are not a fill-to-overflow transmission?

So the correct filler plug on the MT82 in the Defender TDCi is the furthest plug back (the hardest to get to)
You can fill to this plug (yes it is more than 2.2) but will not cause any issues and I believe the extra bit of oil is a benefit to longevity.

There is another filler plug closer to the engine and higher up, I believe I have had boxes over the year that have been mistakenly filled to this plug.
Yes it can cause a leak from the rear main of the gearbox
