Try Dellow Automotive in revesby Sydney or Rod Hadfield Castlemaine Rod Shop Castlemaine Vic, kit is about 600 bux not including the correct flywheel which I belive is a must these days, kit has the other bits you need to do the job
Just wondering if anyone would no were i could get a full holden red motor conversion for my series 3 land rover in Perth Australia. Because the thrust bearing has just gone on mine and i have got the gear box off it at the moment so i think i might just go a full conversion. Because my engine is a bit worn and i don,t really want to rebuild it. Just after the full kit don,t want to have to modify anything.
Thanks in advance Michael![]()

Hi Mate . is the original engine a 4cyl or a 6cyl . Because if it has the landy 6 in it i have the off set engine mounts to get rid of if you are interested .
Nah i have got the original 2.25 litre 4 cylinder petrol in it thats y i sought to want to go the 6 cylinder red motor. And i will be able to do highway speeds too.
Hi Mick , Might pay to keep an eye on ebay as conversion kits come up every now and then and are a lot cheaper than buying brand new![]()
Hi Micheal
Check the quokka.
You should be able to find a Landy with a holden6 already fitted for less than $1000.
Then just swap all the bits to yours, you end up with a landy for spares or parts to sell.
Ser2/2A conversion is the same beast.
The 186 is a better conversion than the 202,more economy similar power.
Your Landy wont go any faster as the gearing remains unchanged.Diff ratios or a high speed transfercase is the best way to remedy, the holden 6 will destroy a fairy overdrive.
Look at a falcoon 6/auto conversion,it will transform your Landy no end,my Bro has one in Perth(Coolbelup) and would probably let you have a look/drive if you are interested in that setup.I think there is such a conversion in the markets section for sale,I have a project in the shed,302 V8 with the auto,it went really well, the auto makes a big difference.

Yeah i was looking into the 250xflow conversion a while back but seems to hard more to modify where as the red motor should just go straight in with the adapters and everything. I looked into 245 and 265 valiant conversions before because some guy was selling a s3 ute for 500 bucks with a 245 hemi in it i went and test drove that and it defiantly had some go it was pretty unbelievable and he had some contraption on the stock land rover box that splits the gears up it had like 8 gears instead of the 4 there was a gear in between every gear.
Hi Mick , That splitting of the gears is just the overdrive on the back of the gearbox . As said go for the 186 as it is a better engine than the 202 and won't be to powerful to wreck your drive train .
I disagree, the 202 is a good motor and at the age these are the condition would matter more. I had a 202 that would fly whereas the 186 was a slug. The 202 I got as a new reco and gave me no problems. The 186 was quite old and struggled to keep up to the traffic, especially with the extra weight of a wagon body. The difference in power between would be minor compared to different driving styles regarding drive train life.
If you use the overdrive as a fifth gear and not another transfer case it shouldn't give problems but the whine negates any drop in revs so I wouldn't go that way again.

I don't doubt that the 202 has more power but in my experiences the 202 doesn't like to rev for long periods of time and likes to float pistons. I was only saying the 186 was better because of the less power and less strain on the gearbox and the rear diff ...... but everyone has there own preference![]()
