    Series 3 LWB 4x2 conversion

Has anyone seen or heard of any conversions that removes the S3 2.6 motor, gearbox and transfer case and replaces them with a motor and gearbox driving the rear diff only? This effectively turns the Landy into a 4x2.

What motor and gearbox setup would be a good choice?

    Regards

There were a few ex army parade landy's going around for a while (one was on Ebay a few months back) which had the drive train replaced with a Holden 202 and auto.

Thats about all I know about them.

In the early days of the Series 2 and Series 2a, the UK MoD had Land Rovers without the front drive.

The front axle was an empty tube with standard swivels and hubs.

The transfer case had a blanking cover where the front output should have been but everything else was the same.

The vehicles were mostly used by Shore Patrol and Military Police. The Rover Service School also used them as transport. I think they stopped producing them when they produced the Freight Rover in competition to the Ford Transit.

The series 3 ceremonial Land rovers would be the best example. Ford engine and auto on LPG. Seems to fit and work quite well. Not sure why you would want to in civilian life, but that would be your best option. I have some photos, but not much under the hood or under the vehicle.

Look at the bandiana photos on REMLR to see some more .

Go buy a prius and rip it apart, at least it will then look better and would be cheap to run and quiet but wouldnt go very fast but probably keep up with a standard SIII lol

Oh and its enviromentally freindly and instead of RWD would be FWD.

When did the Prius become so environmentally friendly?

Wasn't the "dust to dust" carbon balance for the Prius almost the same as that of the Hummer?

Here's some pics of the one from Ebay last year, I thought they had Holden engines. The RAF had 4x2 2As for use on airfields, they pop up occasionally in Brit Land Rover mags. Minerva also built 4x2 Land Rovers.

I'd also look into a slightly more robust tailshaft, and remember to angle the engine and transmission mountings, to keep your tailshaft alignment as close to straight as possible.

And why would anyone want to do such a thing anyway? I can understand a nice revvy powerful engine to replace the tractor donk, but to disable a Landy like that? I don't get it. Why?

This is a red herring isn't it. Your just joshing us, right? It's a joke, yeah?
