    series iii crankshaft pulley-bye bye

He He i was driving round the property today, and the old girl got a bit warm, so i popped my mug under the hood to find a loose fan belt. And no belt pulley on the crankshaft. So now i get it. The dog spiggotty thing that the crank handle engages into, for hand starting, (has anyone actually done that?) must be the nut that secures said pulley onto engine... i found pulley about ten paces from where i started driving.. but no key for the keyway! off to autopro to find a new key, i suppose.. harumph.. and a dog spiggoty thing...

I used to crank start bug about once a fortnight or so. Id jagged it that the compression strokes were on the up down phase of the cank handle so that hand starting it was a cinch.

let me know how I was doing compression wise and since I was too lazy to replace the dying battery if I didnt drive it for 2 days then it dropped too much to be able to start by key. working every second saturday ment that every other monday morning would need the crank handle.

I was just looking at the workshop manuals kindly placed on AULRO site, i can't remember where or who, you know who u are, and THANKS. anyway, that said, i was reading about timing gear cover and oil seal replacement. since there's oil going everywhere atm, i'm guessing the oil seal has disintegrated or completely removed itself in unison with the awol belt pulley/ harmonic balancer, not sure of correct terminology... but i did find that a "dog spiggotty thing" is actually a starter dog...needless to say, vehichle is parked up atm.
