    Airport Land Rovers

Does anyone know anything about airport tenders or Landys used at airports?
This Series 3 I've got was one.
Does anyone have any info or pictures about them.

It has some mad electrics and a strange set of dash switches.

Also several holes in the guards, where "garden tool" brackets go, but they don't look like them.

Its got the "Im Game" paint upgrade many Ser3s got.
I bought one the same, but they did the bulkhead too
    Loads of switches fitted.
I wonder if it had several sets of warning lights fitted when it was a worker????

Not an airport sighting, but for anyone interested there is a forward control fire truck still on active duty at Simonstown naval base south of Cape Town.

Could the holes in the guard be where the side mirrors used to be mounted ????, mine had the mirror on the guards.

Another thing you may consider is the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) they used yellow coloured Land Rovers for both on airport and off airport use when servicing the various air navigation aids like the glide slope lights, boundary lights, VOR/DME markers and radio transponders. For on airport use the vehicles would be required to have the flashing amber beacon, and potentially have a VOR/DME (or TACAN) transponder and radio transceiver for talking to the tower.

The military air stations used Land Rovers to direct taxiing aircraft to their allocated parking. These had a "Follow Me" sign attached to the roof these vehicles were sometimes yellow other times black and white.

BTW the colour in the pic is incorrect to the Game (not bright enough for the yellow) and no silver firewall.

Is it a Game colour scheme or is the mat black on the front so aircraft pilots can read the light signals from the Landrover in daylight hours? Has the Landy been wired up to flash either left or right headlights/sidelights or indicators independantly?

    No idea on the wiring.
It has a 2nd battery spot in the rear tub, some strange power source plug on the indicator stalk, as well as a whole heap of extra fuses, relays, switches etc., on the passenger side of the engine bay.
I'd say they were for other lights, horns, signs etc.
Most are disconnected, cut wires or unattached now.

In the 3 boxes of bits there were also stacks of NOS stock, a lot in sealed Leyland boxes.
Nifty bits too like new mudflaps, visors, rubber stoppers for the bonnet, window channel, fuel caps, hoses galore, brake bits galore etc.etc.
A fairey overdrive and rear diff complete as well.

Can you post up a picture of the hole patern in the front guards, should be pretty easy to figure out if they were for pioneer tools
