Thread: throtle linkage to holden red motor

Use a cable. I've seen early holden bits used to set up a linkage system, but it's more trouble than I'd ever go to. Just remember that you still have to build anchor points for the outer cable. I have done it once with a 6cyl station wagon and a 179.

A cable throttle is a very good option, as it takes out all the little bits of slack in all the joints.

A friend used a Holden cable all the way from the pedal to the carby. The cable outer was fixed in the top face of the drivers footwell above the accelerator , by merely drilling a hole, pushing the cable through and using the Holden spring clip to hold it on the other side. From memory he even used a Holden HT or HQ pedal as well, but you should be able to use the LR one and adapt the fitting.

I can take some pics of my linkage set up this weekend if you wish. It is not the best looking mod (previous owner) but it works well, but i may go cable down the track. A commodore cable with brackets should only set you back about $5 from the wrecker. I have the bits to convert but just did a reco 179 swap over and time was not not enough to do every thing Never is

I am also chasing a front and rear drive shaft from a 6 cyl S3 and a set of the extended shokies to fit the lift on the military s3 lwb (They have a lift in the shackles and standard shokies wont fit) I live south of Perth W.A. and can collect the parts if they are local or will pay freight.

Yep, what Diana said. We used HJ throttle cable/mounts, sent the cable through the firewall at an appropriate spot and a Holden throttle pedal.

It's a simple task, but take some time to nut out where best to mount the pedal and the throw it produces. It has to be comfy underfoot.
