One question - 4 or 6 cylinder? I seem to recall 6s have an O'ring at the back of the block for a water gallery. I could be wrong, though... I haven't yet got that far on my FC.

aaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhh. Well after spending this arvo putting the cylinder head back on the series 3, it has a small water leak at the back of the head below the manifold between the gasket.
I got the head overhalled and checked that it was straight and not warped.
Anyway after following every step in the manual to reinstalling it exept for not using jointing compound, as the gasket I was given diddn't need any.
Any Ideas to why it leaked. I have checked the block for truness and all ok It was clean and dry. So My only clue is that the gasket needs some kind of jointing compound as stated in the manual.
What have you guys and girls done and used.

Diesel engines do not have any O-ring in the head gasket. Did you use a copper gasket, or a fiber gasket?
Aaron.
have used hylomar sealant in a spraycan for I/H diesels i used to build.
hylomar comes in a toothpaste type tube or a spray can. the spray can is easier to get a more uniform film. One layer on the head, one on the block, one on each side of the gasket. Let it almost dry before install.
usually gets a good result with the uncooperative jobs.
Also had success using same method on triumph bonneville with copper head gasket that had a slight oil weep.
Hope this helps
ThanksI will check this stuff out I am picking up new gasket kit on sat so will apply some of this stuff.
I did think of a reason for the leak but was sure it was clear. but there may have been water/oil in the cylinder head threads which was forced out when torquing up the bolts creating an air bubble or somthing allong those lines. Just a thought.
Will.
