Thread: weeping head gasket.

One question - 4 or 6 cylinder? I seem to recall 6s have an O'ring at the back of the block for a water gallery. I could be wrong, though... I haven't yet got that far on my FC.

It is a 4. As far as I know diesels only came in 4,s but I could be wrong.

I seem to remember this about the o ring as well but I dont think the diesel,s need one. But I will check with the manual again.

Diesel engines do not have any O-ring in the head gasket. Did you use a copper gasket, or a fiber gasket?

Fibre gasket with steel inside. It was the same that was in there before removing the head.

have used hylomar sealant in a spraycan for I/H diesels i used to build.
hylomar comes in a toothpaste type tube or a spray can. the spray can is easier to get a more uniform film. One layer on the head, one on the block, one on each side of the gasket. Let it almost dry before install.
usually gets a good result with the uncooperative jobs.
Also had success using same method on triumph bonneville with copper head gasket that had a slight oil weep.

ThanksI will check this stuff out I am picking up new gasket kit on sat so will apply some of this stuff.

I did think of a reason for the leak but was sure it was clear. but there may have been water/oil in the cylinder head threads which was forced out when torquing up the bolts creating an air bubble or somthing allong those lines. Just a thought.
