    Thee is an extension tube into the sump screwed to the bottom of the adapter at the base of the tube. I suspect it is a bit loose giving a step the end of the dipstick is catching in. Ideally remove the whole assembly and screw the bits back together again, using locktite. Failing that, the problem can probably be overcome by bending the very tip of the rod so it does not touch the side of the tube.

    Thanks John, I'll gvie that a go. One of the porblems is I can't seem to unscrew the 'tube' as it hits the exhast etc etc. I'll figure something out. thanks again
