I am not too sure, but there will be many other parts that are not common - the five bearing engine is, I believe, changed to metric threads, so any parts that are threaded will be different, although many will be interchangeable.

What parts are not common to the 3 bearing version apart from the block, crank, flywheel and housing?

Front crank pulley and dampener, Flywheel housing and rear seal (1 piece) and flywheel are the main ones, Regards Frank.
In other words, if i could get my hands on one in parts what should I be asking for?
Make sure it is complete, see in the "Sticky" section in the Series III forum and download the SIII manual, it has a Supplement on the 5 bearing motor, Regards Frank.
Is $1050 too much to pay for freight is it really worth spending that much money on a block crank and flywheel????
When did they change from the 3 bearing to the 5?
Mine is a 78 model and not being familiar with the 2.25l Diesel - how can I identify it as a 3 or 5?
G'day Sleepy,
The easiest way is to check the engine number, from memory, 5 main bearing engines start with 366.
Land Rover, Range Rover engine numbers says change over was 1980.

Thanks Geoff,
I have a 906xxxxxC engine number so that makes mine a 3 bearing.![]()
G'day All,One of the easiest ways is to look at the block, the 5 main bearing engine has a series of webs cast along both sides of the block, cheers Dennis![]()
