    NO go?

Does any body know if the copper terminals/ threads on the starter motor/ solinoid. are replacebale. I striped them today while tighting them as the starter made a clicking sound.

The battery is in good cond so me thinks it was a bad connection.

    BTW I have a diesel ser3 .

    Cheers
    Will

PS: I will hang around in the shed untill i get draged inside.

They are not listed as a replaceable part in the book I have. Have a talk to an auto electrician who actually overhauls starters.

Check whether it is the bolt or the nut that is stripped - if the nut you can certainly get them.

There is also the possibility you can rethread the bolt a size smaller. The copper bolt will be integral with the contact in the solenoid, so it is not just a simplebolt.

Ok Guys, thanks. I have pulled the solinoid off the starter motor but cant seem to undo the plastic top off the solinoid. Do you have to desolder the ground and positive lugs? to remove the cap.

    Regards

Ok, so I had a crack and desolderd the lugs and it came undone so no worries there. But I have been told the parts are no longer available so I will re tap the thread to a smaller size as sugested.

Or if someone has a solinoid they dont want can i have it? for a price of course.

    Regards
    Will.

You have been told wrong. I just had my 2.25D starter rebuilt by Kenwick Auto electrics in Perth. A bush had spun out, meaning it was shorting internally, and had melted/stripped the thread on the solenoid due to current draw.

They had it back to me in under 24hrs with a new solenoid end cap (among other bits).
