    Window rubber help

OK, need some help please. We bought new window rubbers for the rear windows and fitted them all, but can't seem to get the wedge rubber inserted into place (see pic). Any tips welcome!

You need to spread the rubber gap so you can insert the rubber strip

Spray the rubber with soapy water
Find a ring spanner that is slightly larger than the insert rubber
Install the ring spanner in the outer rubber groove .. This will spread it open and allow the insert rubber to fit into the groove

Pull the ring spanner backwards .. and feed the rubber insert as you go

OR ... Put 2 thin screwdrivers // I either side of the rubber insert and use to feed and spread the rubber gap // pull & feed as you go

OR ... just buy the insert tool

There is a half round spreader tool that will do the job with ease ... I will try to find a picy of it

    The Picy

Notice the wires up front are spreading the outer rubber as the roller is pushing in the center rubber ribbing

Wonderful, thanks Mike. Where can you buy the genuine fitting tools? MALZ? Supercrap? Or do you need to go to a trade store of some kind?

You'l have to ring around the tool shops ... or the Auto paint shops

You can make up a tool very easy if you have some Ali ... Cup shaped on the end of a screwdriver ..... What suburb you in??

    A thought ...

    Don't buy the tool ....
You should be able to do it via

... Put 2 thin screwdrivers // I either side of the rubber insert // pull & feed as you go

Have a go // You'l have to experiment with the way your hands are holding the drivers ... but it will work

We got ours done in our SWB (two less long windows) by a local glass shop. Cost $40 labour. We got them to put the insert on the inside instead of the outside, as I thought if it is on the outside it is easy for someone to pull out the centre strip then push the window in to gain entry. They could not offer any logic as to why the insert is traditionally on the outside.

    Body onto chassis

Finally have the body sitting back on the chassis. Here it is rolling under.
