Temp and fuel gauges stopped working.

G'day. This is my first post on this great looking forum.I have a Series 3 109 panel van in pretty tidy condition that I plan to fully restore eventually.Recently my fuel and temp gauges both stopped working at the same time.I've fiddled with the wiring looking for a loose connection but achieved nothing.Any help appreciated. Cheers Phil.

    Welcome to the forum!
On the back of your speedo there should be a voltage stabiliser, it looks like a little metal block with two electrical prongs on it. If you've checked the fuses and they're fine, this is the likely cause.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it likely to be a loose connection,or could the part be kaput?

More likely kaput! With the ignition on, it should have positive voltage on both terminals / prongs when checking to earth with a multimeter. They cost about $30-40.

Check for power with either a multimeter or a test light. The most likely problem is, as suggested, a faulty regulator or a fuse, but could be a wiring connection or even the ignition switch. Note that the output from the regulator is meant to be an intermittent - on/off every few seconds.
