    SERIES 111 LWB

I'm replacing the front windscreens in the Lwb. The left one came out easily. The drivers side one must be the original and is putting up a fight, cracking etc. Is there a solvent I could use to soften up the adhesive?
I also have to reskin the dash and replace the door rubber seals. Any tips. Cheers Derek

Don't know about an adhesive solvent, I usually use a blade and cut the sealant, it should be a Mastic type rubberised permanently flexible bond.

All Four X 4 in Kotara NSW sells kits that replace the individual component rubbers, although I would install an aluminium strip inside the continuous rubber.

Your other option is to cut off the little lip around the door frame and use pinch weld seal the same as the one on the Defender.

Thanks for the response Diana, I bought a length of door seal rubber for Series Land Rovers which has a metal strip in it. Derek

I didn't use the original rubber. It is a PITA, doesn't seal well and needs to be riveted on.

I did what Diana suggested - trim the lip off with Wiss snips and went to a wrecker and bought near new door rubbers from wrecked vans or similar.

Takes seconds to fit and seals much better.

For galvanised/steel sections where I didn't want to trim the lip, I got rubbers from a conventional car (I think a sierra/jimny) and sikaflexed them on.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but I'm in Melbourne. I've found a Glazier who will cut me some of that Laminated safety glass. I have to replace this perfectly servicable windscreen glass for a roadworthy. It has a couple of tiny little sandblast chips and thats all. Derek

Wyss Snips are a brand of good quality compound action tin snips. The name is sometimes used (often mis-spelled) to describe any similar type of tin snips. The alternative name is Aviation Tin Snips.

Because of the compound action, they can handle thicker metal than simple scissors type snips, and generally come in straight and right and left hand angled jaw varieties.
