I am after a few measurements from the transfer case of a series Land Rover, so am looking for someone who may have a transfer case with the covers off but not disassembled.
The measurements I am after all relate to the mainshaft and mainshaft constant gear and distances from the rear outer face of the housing.
The measurements need to be very accurate.
The measurements:
- Rear face T/F housing to front face constant gear.
- Rear face T/F housing to rear face of constant gear.
- Rear face T/F housing to rear of mainshaft.
- Length of mainshaft rear bearing surface.

At present the only regular box I have available is in my SIII FFR. I do have 2 helical boxes, 1 open, which I am about to measure but no other series boxes.
So I was hoping that someone had a open box.

I do, but having not seen one open I don't actually know if it's complete. How fast do you need the info? And how accurate? The most accurate measuring instrument I have is a Vernier Caliper.
I have a transfer case sitting on the shed floor, due to my gearbox main shaft becoming two, much shorter, main shafts. I'll see if I can work out exactly what you want by looking at it but maybe it would eliminate a potential error if you could mark on a sketch where the measurements are needed?
I need the info before next wednesday but the earlier the better so I can draw up the comparison.
I need a transfer box and gearbox that are connected and have the gearbox mainshaft in place (which means the bellhousing in place also)
the main two measurements I need can also be taken off an overdrive.
The distance from the face of the O/D housing to both sides of the helical gear.

OK. Measured up an overdrive with my new metric caliper.
120mm 93.6mm and gear width 26.8mm

Looks like I have to shorten the input/output shafts by 30mm and or add a spacer between the t/f housing and O/D housing. Another problem I've just identified is the H/brake drum. The 11" f/c drum will foul the Roverdrive housing.
All the tolerances are going be tight the mainshaft spigot on the f/c is 4mm larger than the regular spigot, meaning that there wont be room to use a tube socket on the nut. The reduced OD of the mainshaft constant gear means there will be very little meat below teeth of the new output shaft.
However there should be solutions to all the problems.
