    Gear Box Assessment

I'm cleaning up a supposedly good cond Series 2A GB I bought as part of a package.

It seems OK: no leaks, not much slop, hi-lo, 4wd all work great.

BUT when I select 1st & spin the park brake drum, I can hear a moderate rumble. 2nd 3rd 4th all dead quiet. I've always noticed 1st gear on older GB's were noisy. Old Jags were notorious!

Are Series GB's noisy in 1st gear? I've never driven one!

First and reverse are straight cut sliding gears. All other gears are constant mesh helical gears. It would be pretty remarkable if the straight cut gears were dead quiet. (Same applies to low range).
