Thanks to 123rover50 s generosity I finally ended up with the proper rear springs for my S1 LWB. I had a full set, front and rear reset at Bayside Springs. Just a few questions.
1. Is the folded leaf a feature only found on S1 107/109 rear springs, or was it carried over to the S2 production?
2.I've been informed that the front spring with the leaf that wraps all the way around the bush and then tapers to nothing is a military spring.Can someone confirm this? Thank you for all your help. W

2. Which is standard? The one in the left or right picture? W.

The left picture shows a 2-stage SW spring. AFAIK never fitted to mil landrovers. IME these are the optimal OEM spring for all 109s (excluding fire tenders).

The 2nd pic with the tapered main leaf to form the eye is a new one to me. Series one possibly???

The 3rd pic with the standard eye seems to be the SW spring again. This is the same eye design as all SII/IIA/III springs I have seen, mil or civvie.

Now we're getting somewhere.I've been told by the bloke at the spring works that the spring in the 2nd picture , "with the tapered main leaf as you call "is a military one.

I'm well aware that some S 2/3 have got 2-stage springs,but do they use a folded leaf.That was my question. W

I haven't seen a leaf spring pack that has had a leaf folded over as in this photo

Could it be aftermarket? I can't think of a reason to do it and if the gap wasn't calculated well could cause problems when articulating.

I thought you were talking about the wrap around eyes on the 2nd leaf.

AFAIK all OEM 2-stage springs have the folded leaf your pic shows.

No it's not aftermarket, it's a standard S1 109 rear spring.Under load the gap closes and the spring pack sits flat on the helper spring . W.
