    Series Firewall Vent Covers

    Hi All,

I am in the process for restoring my 1960 SWB Series 2, "Roger".

Roger came with these fancy firewall vent covers:

I would like to either clean or sand/paint them, but I am afraid of damaging them because they seem to be made of very delicate aluminium / wire.

Any suggestions? I don't want to damage them.

As always - any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

One I have are aluminium frame but steel wire - still very delicate. I manually wirebrushed them using a fairly soft bronze wire brush, but did not attempt to try and remove all the rust from the mesh, then a light coat of etch primer followed by black.

They look reasonably clean except for the item bottom right of frame, in the past I have just grit blasted mine using Illmenite and have had no issues with that, anyway cheers Dennis

if you are only using a small sand blaster they should be fine but as JDNSW said I would wire brush them first to see what the outcome is then
