    What's This?

    Hi All,

This piece came with my car - but was not fitted. I was told that it is a protection plate for the dynamo / alternator and that it somehow connects off the side of the radiator cowling?

    Is that true?

Does anybody have one of these fitted that they could take a photo of in situ?

My '61 does not have one, so I am not exactly sure where it goes and how to install it...

As always - any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Here it is -

    93 Discovery 1 200 Tdi - Club Rego
    03 130 Td5 Single Cab
    06 Discovery 3 Petrol
    22 Defender 90 - Full rego

Looks like 551714 "shroud for fan cowl. Missing on mine. Screws to the RH side of the radiator shroud, primarily to protect the battery from hot air off the radiator. Should be holes in the shroud with speednuts for the tabs on it. 2.25 petrol only.

I'm sure I saw a new one of these at KLR Auto last week. I was asked by the parts photographer "What is it?" and I said it looks like a fan shroud.

It's not on their website so I assume it's coming as it was being photographed.

if its what I think it is (pics not loading at my end)

its about the diameter of a large milo tin and probly about the same lenght, wider at the side that goes to the shround.

Its not protection per say but is intended to duct air over the generator/alternator to keep it cool.

    Mil-Spec re-make them
Radiator Fan Shroud, 2.25L petrol engines, Series 2a
    – Mil-Spec Restorations

There must be some variations as a couple of different part numbers come up in a search.
