Usually a chipped reverse gear
I used to just ignore mine
Hey all,
My landy gearbox sounds like its on the way out.
A horrible clunking noise comes from the gearbox while reversing, under load (clutch pedal out) the clunking is very apparent, clutch in, clunk is there but a lot quieter.
I thought it may be the handbrake binding but the shoes/handbrake looks good, unless there is more to it i'm not seeing.
Any ideas?

Thanks, I drained the gearbox oil and a tooth came out. Would that one tooth cause the really loud clunking noise? or could there be more damage? All forward gears are fine.
Mine did the same thing. It's undergoing a full resto now, but I haven't got around to stripping the box down yet, I'm guessing I'll find something similar.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Bugger!
So looking like a rebuildhopefully this isn't too hard.
Is a gearbox rebuild better left to the experts? If not, where do you guys purchase your parts from?
Might be best from the UK although I do find all 4x4 in Newcastle to be good
Mine does the same thing. I found a tooth once when changing the oil in the gearbox as well.
Also sometimes I know it's the handbrake binding up because I left it slightly on. I reach down and grab the handle then shake my head
