    Bell housing bolt pattern

    Hi All,

    I have searched a lot through this site and others but can't find a definite answer to this question anywhere. I have a Series 3 that used to have a 2.6 six cylinder that has been replaced with a Holden six. The flywheel housing adapter used is the one to mate to the six cylinder bell housing on the standard 4 speed series box. I know that the six cylinder bolt pattern is the same as the early series one engines but I have seen posts that claim it is also the same as the Rover V8. However I have not seen any posts confirming this as true so I would like to know if it is as it would open up some extra options for a gearbox to put behind the Holden motor. I know there is a difference in the bell housing and input shaft lengths over various motors and fittings but I can worry about that as a separate issue.

    Hi tim, I know where there is a complete nos adapter plate set to fit Holden engine To series, including flywheel and clutch with pressure plate and engine mount feet, on the Gold Coast, if that is any help.

    Same bloke has a rover 6 cyl, supposed to be overhauled, but not sure what he means by overhauled, this engine is still on the engine stand in his shed

    Thanks Harry but not really what I need. I already have the adapter to a series box, and even have a 4 cylinder one as well, but I want to see if I can fit another gearbox behind the Red motor. Plans are actually for an auto if possible and there are a couple of different ways to get to that, one is to fit an auto that is made for the red motor and adapt it to a transfer case and the other would be to fit a Landrover auto and transfer to the holden which is the reason for this question.

    I actually like this 186 engine I have a lot, it seems to have bags of low down torque and pulls up hills beautifully so I would like to keep it and work the best solutions around it.

    As I said I could not find a definitive answer in any of the searches I did and no answers here yet so it looks like I will have to try and get a look at the back of a rover six (actually I have an old 2 litre here so that might do) and a V8 to make some measurements.
