Pale Blue SIII wagon possibly RAN (discussion thread)

This thread has been extracted from a for sale ad for discussion of colour and origins. It is no longer a for sale thread.
(Parts of the thread have been deleted.)

    1979 Landrover Stationwagon Series3
    Chassis No 93305126D
Landrover Stationwagon Series 3, (easy project) late 70's, had a new motor fitted about 10 years ago "fan to clutch", near new all purpose tyres 90% tread, interior good, no exterior panel damage, safari sun roof. spare wheel, spare gear box and other bits and pieces etc.

But with a good detail, exterior cut and polish, interior cleaned, tyres blackened and you would have a great looking original Landrover "Omnibus 10 seater"

    Unusual colour for a SIII.

Was it ever in RAN service?

It has the hole for the hand crank on the Thomas electric winch!

Other interesting aspects are that it doesn't have the little tab on the windscreen hinge of most SIII and the holes on the bar look similar to the one on this RAN Stage 1

    Hello Lotz a Landies,

The Landrover Station-wagon, unfortunately I am unable to answer that question, I am assisting a family sell off some equipment, etc from a deceased estate and none of the family are aware of its earlier history prior to their purchase of it.

    Thank you for your interest.

You might think about going over to REMLR.com and posting it as possible RAN SIII, I'm sure there will be some over there that may have an interest or opinion.

It would be important to confirm that the sky blue paint job is the original everywhere before making that leap of faith.

(No trying to hijack this thread but more about the colour.)
    Hi Ron

That vehicle was originally grey, the same as all SII and SIIa 4 cyl 109 Land Rovers in Oz (excluding vehicles purchased on government contract, e.g. NSW Forestry burnt orange, PMG blood red, DCA canary yellow).

The one in this thread was a SIII 109 wagon which were almost exclusively Camino or Bahama gold.

In Oz the various colour choices didn't become commonplace until the advent of the Stage 1 SIII. (109V8 and 109Isuzu)

Again I am not hijacking the thread, I have a series III which is sprayed green which is flaking off and it is either red or dark orange underneath. What is PMG?

    The short version: Telstra.
The long version PMG was Post Master General which was split into Telecom Australia for the telephone division and Australia Post for the Post Office.

Telecom Australia was merged with OTC (Overseas telecommunications Commission) and privatised to become Telstra.
