As you can see in the last pic the internal or stock part number starts with a G so its a genuine part. The material is just black vinyl so its easy to acquire. I THINK the reason they are in two parts is the chain gets trapped when you close the tailgate when its in a single piece but in two pieces the chain doesnt get trapped. Hope this helps.

    Thanks Rod,

Interesting that the seam down the length is external. Internal would mean sewing it inside out and then turning the sleeve inside out.

I'll make some up sometime in the next few weeks and see what they look like. I prefer the idea of the internal seam

These are the chain sleeves on my 66 2A swb.

They are made out of the seat elephant hide material and were fitted when I bought the vehicle in 1974.

The dimensions are 1 5/8" wide and 19 1/2" long. They are in one piece and a tight fit on the chain.

    Thanks Chris,

Must be genuine as they are in Elephant Hide !!!
So external seam is the way to go.

    G'day Colin,

Interesting the bend point is 13 1/2" from the tailgate attachment point and not in the middle of the chain!!.
So why make them in two pieces?.

The theory above was to stop water gathering inside but if the join isn't at the bottom it wouldn't work.
Seems odd that the parts manual lists them as two short sleeves, Britpart & Exmoor also make them as two short sleeves but yours is one piece and others also mentioned being in one piece.

Sorry, that wasn't meant as an explanation. It's just something I noticed on the L/R I use around the place.

It is very likely that the sleeves provided changed a number of times through Series production, which may explain the differences.
