Series Drum brakes for camper trailer

    Hi,

I am after some information on drum brake set up for a camper trailer.

I have a camper set up with land rover series stub axles that bolt onto the axle with land rover hubs and wheels. I want to put brakes on so after some advice about what brakes I could use.

I was thinking of sourcing rear drum brakes (only one wheel cylinder) to bolt straight on but curious if I could use disc brake set off a defender or disco etc. I want keep the current stub axle set up as I have a complete stub axle and hub with the spare tyre, so anything would have to bolt onto existing configuration.

    Any ideas?

    cheers

    Robbie

Yeah I fitted stubs and disc's to my camper.....Salisbury Stubs, disco hubs discs and calipers.

Have a search for my thread.

I assume you will do override hydraulic? Handbrake is the only issue although handbrakes are only recommended not a requirement.

The other option is electric over hydraulic, fitting a hydraulic handbrake is quite easy.

Martins trailer parts are your friend. They are WA based but ship everywhere.
You should be able to get electric or override brakes from them.
You wont need to worry about engineering a home bake braking system.
I got a special order 2 tonne setup to suit a D2 wheel with electric brakes, nothing was a problem for them.I had to source the wheel studs,14mm Toyota at the time.Early land rover isn't a problem.

If you go with electric drum brakes, there is a separate lever on the drums.I have a D2 handbrake lever on my camper trailer.

Here is the link to the setup I built......good to see your keen to have Landy brakes, just takes some nutting out. There is a pic with the adaptor plate you will need for the caliper.

Camper trailer electric over hydraulic upgrade

I hate override banging and crashing and figured electric was boring. I do rate electric over hydraulic but it comes at a cost.
