Maybe, but I reckon 20 years from now a good D1 will be valuable.

And who can say, with the resurgence of James Bond using a S3 in his last film how much Series SWBs will possibly be worth one day?

Maybe it will become the latest Groupie Car? Saw a S2A today in Midsummer Murders & it looked jut the part & I felt glad I owned one.

Yes, I'm sure a S2 will be more valuable, but D1s are good value now.

Actually a good D1 2 door is probably worth a bit even now due to their scarcity. I expect they will go up in value as D2's come down.

Nice to see this thread resurrected, I noticed I started it in 2017, in case anyones interested the Barney project is still going, and probably another year from registration.

jmabbott, I think the money you are looking to spend on a restored series 3 is way high, look up the HoHars on this forum, they have (had?) a beautifully restored S3 available that would do the job you require of it for a good deal less than that...

Anyone want one of these to restore? I have one that has been partially wrecked but body panels seem ok Colour I think described a burgundy. Mate bought it cheap at auction from car dealer vacating premises for the ARB bullbar he wanted. Main problem it came with other than mud all over it was busted carrier in rear diff. Also badly bent sump guard bar but sump not damaged. 3.9 motor still in it and should run as is. Another mate got it going and drove vehicle a couple of km after it was brought here. Stopped because an alternator bearing seized Also air conditioner. Gearbox gone. Transfer box probably surplus to my requirements. Is currently a rolling chassis with Series 2 rims fitted with worn cross ply recaps with tubes. At least these don't slowly go flat like tubeless standard tyres on it did. PM me if interested. Thanks for the comments. I certainly need to do more research (and win the bloody lottery!). I'm not particularly interested in Disco's, they simply don't float my boat like the Series 3 does - to me that model epitomises Land Rovers. While I'd be happy with a later model Defender, even perhaps a Perentie, though the lack of seating could be an issue if want to take the grand-kids with us, they don't have the vintage look and feel I'm after. When I eventually get rid of the Jeep, whatever I end up with will be the car I keep till I can no longer drive, so in that respect $50K is not an unreasonable price to pay.

Where were you 4 months ago? Best I could screw out of the buggers was $1000 up from $750 as a Trade in.

Mind you, that was from Ned Kelly Motors & may have been a bit sus.

D1 facelift. '95, Carigada Green, alloys, 146,000 km, near new rubbers & spare never been on the road but was certainly past it's 10 year legal life, tow bar, Lambswool front seat covers inc headrests, 16" elec fan, Side Steps, etc etc etc.
