    and another.

Probably most of these are ex Australian models that are being bought up and sent back for this purpose.

The first one they did certainly came from here, and one of the blokes in charge of the project is a Aussie according to an article in LRO magazine.

I was there last January, bloody impressive. Unfortunately we weren't allowed cameras though...

You're right; most of these are coming from Australia and Africa where the dry climate has been kinder to them.

They have one there they picked up around Bourke, so original they have done nothing to it, it is their reference vehicle.

A good way to spend an hour if you happen to be over that way.

    Is the Aussie, Michael Bishop?
I've heard that these vehicles are making upwards of seventy thousand POUNDS, with a waiting list.

The name rings a bell, but as I pass the magazines on to a friend, I can't check.

Gather the important thing to JLR regarding buying old Land Rovers to rebuild is being able to transfer identity to the rebuilt one. Then they largely just have to conform to design rules that applied when the original vehicle was new rather than current ones. would make things easier in some respects such a maybe no emission controls. Of course regarding some aspects it would be expedient to install some parts and extras out of later models. Of particular interest to me is '61 LWB ute I acquired from a deceased relative's estate. Hope to eventually re register it with its original issue plate numbers in primary producer category rather than historical as will have some ongoing use as farm vehicle. (Do any other states other than Victoria have primary producer registration, which Victorian Farmers Federation claim they have fought to retain> Currently annual cost about $400 for my Defender 130.)

Some comments about 61 Landy. Reckon some aspects I would like to keep or restore to original. Prefer some modifications to others. eg It has a Series 3 exhaust manifold. Very unlikely anyone would want to make more of the swan neck manifolds they superseded which were more prone to crack and bust. Also, if I buy rather than make a new exhaust pipe, would be to fit station wagon as have a station wagon fuel tank which could be installed after some chassis and other modifications. Front indicator lights: Original glass lens ones probably more durable than later types. Not sure if these available anywhere. However even those from 2015 Defender should not look much out of place to non purists. Re indicators. Has well installed obvious aftermarket ones as none were fitted originally. Some from a late S2A would look less out of place to many observers. Only has drivers side wiper. Good to get another of effectively same motor etc to install on left. Has Smiths heater probably of mid '70's vintage and demister pipe to apparent homemade outlet only on drivers side. Door seals: Original type in several pieces which rivet on need replacing . These are not much dearer than genuine Defender ones which can be made to fit.

Think will leave generator which was converted to negative earth presumably when owner had bush fire brigade radios installed. Have Bosch alternator connected delta rather than star for higher output and possible use as welder. Intend to add another crank pulley and install it as well. JLR would need to remember that some people used to alternators probably would want them rather than lower output generators. Vehicle has original Lucas 700 globe type headlights. Have scored box of NOS original type globes cheap. However, will look at LED globes that fit for paddock use and quartz for any long night road trips. From bloke in South Aust who deals in such oddities. Can get manufacturers to made many types to his special orders if price right relative to volume ordered.

Wonder what Land Rover will do for gearboxes. With expensive refurbished vehicles they would need to consider customer satisfaction and keeping warranty claims to a minimum. Probably go for basically late S2A or late S3 . I think the earlier crash in first and dog clutch in second gear are good for one type of driving lesson. ie To get drivers appreciate what synchromesh does and starting lesson at least on driving crash gearboxes.

I think you'll find Mox, that people aren't going to pay excess of 70G £ for a "modified" Series of any description. Perhaps if the owner is paying for it, maybe they will (??).

I read one of the articles when this first started. Stated that (as said earlier) sources were mainly Aus and Africa. Vehicles had to be '48 to '53 and had to have original motor, gearboxes and firewall.
The huge dollar figures being thrown about ($130,000 was one I heard of) are the prices LR will charge when the rebuild is complete - NOT what they are paying for them, as some of the current sellers of old Landies' are trying to pass off, to justify the outlandish prices some are asking for any old so-called "classic" LandRover.
