    Carburetor for 2.0 ltr

V__36DF.jpg I took my old Solex 32PB1-2 to the carby guy. Very knowledgeable bloke, been in the game a long time but alas, he said the poor old thing was cactus...

So, I need a replacement and I'm putting it to the brains trust.

A new genuine item is £395 plus shipping (ouch!) from Craddocks, if I have to I will, but is it any better than the knockoff Indian/Chinese copy at £95.00?

Come to think of it, considering I've installed electronic ignition and an alternator in the hunt for reliability, it's no longer an exactly faithful restoration.
In that light is there an item out there in carburetor-land that would be a better option than the Solex?

I always come here when I get stuck, and usually get good advice; so I want your opinions lads and ladettes, good, bad, ugly, - lets hear it...

    Peter.

Don't forget I'm mechanically inept and that I never know if people are pulling my leg or not...

Oneoff, How did you go with your hunt to replace your old Solex? They have to be pretty bad to be beyond repair. I suppose the bill adds up pretty quick at $100+ an hour. I do my own instead of watching the idiot box. Did you mange to find one that works alright? I would really like to buy beg or steal your old one if you still have it to fit to my 1953 80". The stamps on your old carb are exactly the right for my March 1953 built 80". Thats what the LC53 stamp on the body means. I am retired now and have access to a good range of Solex parts, so I would like to have a crack at it. I fitted a Powerspark electronic ignition to a spare Lucas DVXH4A dizzzy for my 80" and it seems to work quite well after a bit of tweaking to get the timing right. Which kit didyou use? BTW, What model is your S1? Cheers, Mike.
