    AYG 8038 wheels. 5.5f or 5.5j

I have searched everywhere to see if AYG8038 wheels are F or J. I can't find anything on my wheels either.

I have another wheel that is not an AYG8038 and it has 16x5.5f marked on it.

The reason I am trying to find out is because of this reply from BF Goodrich.

Tyres marked “Tubeless” should under no circumstances be fitted with a tube on split rims. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 and Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 have been designed to fit a 5° Drop Centre wheel with a “J” or “JJ” flange profile (18mm). Common split wheels in Australia are 5.50“ F which has a flange height of 22mm and 6.00” GS with a flange height of 28mm.

I didn't say I had split rims I just think they assumed they were because I asked about 7.50r16s

Yes. I've had many tyre retailers tell me I was mad because I insisted the rims on my Landrover weren't split rims. When I front up, they tell me this is the first Landcruiser they'd seen that didn't have split rims for the 7.50 16 tyres.
I just told them that was because this was an English made one and they didn't have split rims in England. Seemed logical to them.

I've just done a little research. I found a post on REMLR that said AYG8108 rims were marked 6.00F x 16. I thought they were J profile.
The difference between the AYG8038 (ex mil S3) and AYG8108 (Perentie) is the former is 5.5" and the later is 6". I'd have thought the profile would be the same.
A little more browsing is required I think.

Yes I have been doing a lot of searching and getting conflicting info.

One post will say F and another will say J.

I just don't have any that are not fitted with tyres to see if it's marked somewhere on the inside.

Actually, split rims were optional on Series 1, although quite rare. I think the same ones were fitted to the Austin Champ, at least I have recognised them on Champs. (which are also English)

    Yeah.
Lets not confuse the tyre fitters.

F and J both have a 5° drop. I think the tyre will fit on both.

I've just checked two of six 8038 rims, and both are marked F in the well.

I have ended up getting Dunlop Road Gripper F tyres.

For the 4-5000kms a year that I do they will be fine.

    G'Day,

    I just noticed your post.
I have also been chasing some tubeless Defender rims for a series 1 project. I was advised that "F" in the size stamp means "Tube type" and "J" means tubeless. If you come across any 5.5 X 16J steel Land Rover Rims, please let me know. I hope that this info is of some help.
    Many thanks.
