Thread: Series III heater valve

The left hand tap is a replacement for a slightly later Ford (XA>>) than the metal tap (>>XY) on the right. The metal tap was also used on the P76. None of them lasted for more than a few years before seizing up.

Just Googled and eventually found the Ford tap, a lot cheaper than the metal one.
Would make a low cost replacement allowing me to turn off the heater in summer. Mind you, there's not much heat from the heater so it hasn't been a problem so far.....

Just found that the spring clip that holds the cable to the valve is 1/2 the price of the valve !

Still a cheap alternative to the metal valve.

There's also the universal straight metal tap, comes supplied with cable clip.

I saw those but I had it stuck in my mind I needed the 90degree one.

The straight one will save trying to get a short angled hose and with a very short straight hose will be 'fixed' to the heater. Might give one of those a try.....

Any idea how the cable on the Ford connects to the pin on the operating arm ?
Was there a fancy clip or a loop in the end of the cable inner ?

Going to get one but just need to work how to connect the cable.

The solid inner core of the operating cable for the straight tap was formed into a 3 turn loop around the round pin. Easy to do with pliers. The 90 degree plastic tap had the wire core formed into a short zigzag.

If you only want to turn it on or off seasonally, why not just put a plumbing ball valve in the heater hose?
