    What is this thing ?

    it looks like some kind of voltage regulator, came in a box of parts from a mate, so not on my vehicle originally.

    It looks like a voltage regulator fitted to some early alternators!

    AS Don said, Bosch voltage reg. Judging by the last pic. I would bin it.
