    Longer coil lead

    Hi,

Probably a dumb question, but is there a way to get a longer coil lead than the one in kits like ERC3256 Land Rover Series 2 2a 3 2.25 Petrol H.T. Ignition Spark Plug Lead Set | eBay I'm trying to move my ignition coil back to the bulkhead to get rid of the annoying adaptor plate over the valve cover and to look more original, but I need a lead that's about 600mm long.

I gave up trying to find one online, so failing that - does anyone know what these connectors are called, so I can get some and splice up a custom wire?

I also found Land Rover Series 2 4 Cylinder Engines HT Leads 8mm which looks right, but the one review indicated the lengths didn't match what was advertised, and it's a whole kit when I only need one wire.

    Thanks,
    - Will

No such thing as a dumb question.

We used to have HT lead on the reel, both copper and carbon. Buggered if I’d know where to get that now.

    have a look here:

Thanks JayTee - that's one part of the mystery solved. Just need to find some stock of cable now. Didn't realise they were just called "HT terminals", I was Googling stuff like "Lucas push-in connectors".

Last time I looked, places like Repco had ready assembled individual HT leads of varying length. Not sure whether they had reels of HT wire though. Garages used to all have reels of the stuff!

Thanks John. I tried Supercheap because it was closer, they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Maybe I got unlucky with who was rostered on that day. May as well give Repco a shot too.

    $41.80 for a 30m roll.
Not sure if an 'auto' shop would keep it and cut-to-length.
I'm sure I have a part used roll somewhere......

Thanks Colin. I saw that, I don't know what on earth I'd do with 30m of the stuff unfortunately.

Make leads for 29 other owners? Make space leads for your own car?
    It’s actually pretty cheap imo.

In my experience, HT leads last a long time. My 2a I replaced the leads about twenty years ago after a loose end fitting on the coil took out the coil. And they are still perfectly OK. When I sold the Citroen about ten years ago, it still had the original 1974 leads, and these were giving no issues.

So it is hard to see why an individual owner would need a full roll. (Unless they have a mouse problem! - but in that case the reel wants to be in a steel box.)
