Help appreciated with setting new indicator stalk / steering wheel bits

    Hi All,

My S3 project is in the last mile but they often say this is the longest. I am completing all the wiring and would like some help/advice with adding the bits and pieces for the indicator switch. It was 3 years ago I removed it all and have no recollection of how it goes back together.

In the photos you will see two parts - one that goes around the steering column with the little knob and one that looks like a special washer.

Question - does the first bit just stick in the back of the steering wheel and is the knob on the right hand side (as in photo) or on the left hand side?

Second question - the special washer - I can see that it goes under the nut to secure the steering wheel but can't understand its purpose?

Thanks in advance for your help - without this forum I would not have gotten this far.

    Chris

    Hi Chris.
The Knob cancels the indicator switch. It just needs to locate in the two steering wheel holes.
The special washer locks the steering wheel nut. The small right-angle bend locates in a slot on the steering wheel. The other two tabs bend up over the flat of the nut.
Use the one best suited once the steering wheel nut is torqued up to 80Nm. (60 lbs-ft)

As Witehillbilly says, as near as I remember. (Long time since I have looked at that bit of a S3!)

Thanks Witehillbilly & John, when you pointed out that it is a lock washer it makes so much sense that I didn't realise why I couldn't see it .

Thanks for the torque settings. The knob is on the left side of the steering wheel once I did some testing. Funny that it makes a click as you go around - but maybe this is how it is meant to work - tried to capture this in the video.

    Thanks, Chris
