Correct ignition coil for 2.25 litre petrol motor

Hello again.

After a 5km walk and 6 or so hours standing around in the sun I did get some mechanical help to diagnose the issue. Ten minutes later it had roared back to life and sounds like it’s rearing to get back to Brisbane.

The points had stuck but not melted and a few other aspects of the distributor innards enjoyed a clean and adjustment. I’ll pick up some spares in the next major town of significance and look forward to a reasonably pleasant drive home.

Apologies for the earlier accusation of unreliability to the replacement coil from the gathering - it works just fine now that the points are doing the same.

Great to hear you're on your way again. I was a bit worried when you said you were having trouble with the new coil I gave you.

The 45D4 points & condenser are difficult & expensive to source through Repco, etc. in my experience. Land Rover (or Mini) parts suppliers are better.

I have the drop in electronic conversion which I bought at the All British Day in Brisbane. It's my second one. Be warned that these will also break down in time with only the occasional random misfire as warning. Once they're done, they're done. So I still carry the points, condensor & rotor button to convert it back.

That coil was a life saver and genuinely appreciated.

When I first fitted it on Monday the truck still wouldn’t start and got very hot. However, later when the distributor got a bit of tlc it started just fine.

Just done a run to Yass via the Wee Jasper Rd and it ran well. Hesitantly switched the motor off - a point where my troubles commenced last Thursday - and it refired first shot.

My local Repco have what I need for a 45D or 25D distributors.
I run a ballast Resister, Repco, on my 77 S3.
Bosch Point now done 35,000klms. 10V at the points.
Running a C80R Coil from Repco.
Minisport is also good for distributor parts. quite often cheaper than LR parts sellers.
