Not surprised. They're thin on the ground in Melbourne these days.

Sorry to post here so late, but a SIII 2.25 petrol motor uses a standard coil. A resistance coil will overheat and eventually fail. From memory, it will also burn out the points so that they close up. So, fit a standard coil and check your points gap.

Pretty much how I see it.

    Success of sorts.

I tracked down a new non R coil at the gathering. So, I’m that far ahead for now. Would like to track down a new points set but - who knows - the existing ones might clean up.

    Cheers,

    Neil

L19 points can be fragile. I've broken the contact tip off before, so don't be too enthusiastic, but they will probably clean up enough to get you home. Cheap aftermarket ones are of course worse, but that's probably all you'll get these days, unless you're lucky enough to find some NOS. Or, maybe not.

Yes, I also have spares of this stuff at home in Brisbane.

Unfortunately, we downsized earlier in the year and all of my workshop stuff ended up in boxes at the back wall of the new garage and subsequently got penned in with furniture and a myriad of other stuff.

We spent the week before coming away in Darwin meeting a first grandchild - lovely girl - and was only back the one day before a 6:00am start south. Most of that precious free day was spent directing an army of tradesmen who are gutting and rebuilding most of the new house - a process that started several months ago.

So, other than tools and a rudimentary assembly of spares, the journey largely started with more enthusiasm than logistical planning.

Next time I may look more like the tinkers who used to roam the backblocks sharpening knives, cutting hair and flogging bolts of cloth.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Sorry, but I find that hard to believe. I’m sure they had some but nobody at my local Repcos would have any idea what they were??

Apparently their computer system did. I was surprised at the time.

If I was home (which I am not), I could give you the Bosch number.
