Smile Series 2 or 2a ute, motor conversion.

    Hi all,
I am thinking of buying an old series 2 or 2a LWB Ute, but i want to do a motor conversion on it. I was thinking along the lines of an old commodore v6 and an auto trans, my Son and I ( who is 6) would like to take it on a high country trip some time in the near future. I was wondering if any one else out there has done an similar conversion in the past before ?
We want to build it up similar to Otis the comp truck, but still use it as my daily ride. As well as the motor and box conversion, we will have to replace the springs, diffs, axles and brakes of course to suit the V6, probably the whole driveline in fact.
Any suggestions or ideas would really be appreciated, as I do not know were to start or more importantly what the best driveline combination would be. we both dont want it to hard core, but we want a really good reliable tuff little truck that will conquore all the tracks we throw at her.

Have a look at Slunnies (member on here) website - he has done a top build up along similar lines to what you are describing, although a different motor.

    www.slunnie.com - Aussie Built Rovers

There are a few other series builds on here, search around in the projects area and you'll find everything you're looking for! It's a massive undertaking, but what a great Father/Son project

    Cheers,

    Adam

    G'day bingrames

Why not go diesel? fit a 300Tdi and Auto from a Disco1 that would keep it all Landrover,4 cyl and then all you would have to do is fit the Disco rear diff (disc brakes) then disc the fronts.

    cheers

I didn't think they let you do conversions on old Landies here. Or does that only apply to the old holden sixes?
