Where to mount an air Compressor, under the bonnet discovery 3

    G'day All

I want to mount an air compressor under the bonnet of my 09 TDV6 SE Discovery 3. I am aware of using the vehicles existing compressor but am trying to avoid that option at this stage. (ie warranty issues). I have read of poeple using the second battery compartment but i have a secondary battery so that option is no good. There is space for it to be mounted infront of the main battery compartment but it looks like a bracket would have to be manufactured so a compressor could be bolted to it. Does anyone know of a suitable bracket that is out there or can anyone recomend something.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Birky,
I think that you are right that the only viable position is in front of the starting battery. I believe that someone in Sth Africa sent a template to a supplier, who made up a multi-mount, suitable for a range of compressors. Do a search on the South Africa forum.

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

Hi birky, I placed my ARB Compressor in front of the start battery on a bracket that I made up myself and it uses the current pick-up points available, the two for the fluid reservoir's and the next two higher up the guard so no holes had to be drilled and it looks factory. It has been going well for over two years now up there and is solid. I fitted two switches alongside there using the (shortened) ARB loom. I fitted two thinking the chance of two turning on being much less of a chance than just the one switching on and the loom more-or-less dictated it to me.

    Hi D3viate

I know the exact mounting holes you are talking about and i had the same idea with the bracket. I was hoping that the bracket could be purchased off the shelf somewhere. I dont have the time or equipment to bend up the steel myself although i may be the only option.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Trobbo,

I am in Ringwood myself I don't have a D3 but a D1. I do have measuring equipment and my own licence of SolidWorks 3d design software with my company. I am more than willing to spend the time with you to come up with something which is suitable. I get lots of components lasercut so I am aware of the cost in this process and how easy it is.
Send me a PM if you want to get together at some stage and work something out for your vehicle.

I think you may just become my new best friend.

I'm happy to be a guinea pig, and I'm sure that once the template is designed you would be able to sell a few extra bits to fellow D3/4 owners on the side at reasonable cost.

I got ARB to mount mine and they did it perfectly (ARB Osborne Park WA) - have you asked ARB for a bracket?
