    Smile Your 4x4

I have, after suffering the latest episode of your 4x4, come to the conclusion that this show is nothing but a half hour ARB's promo for anything not Land Rover. The episode I just suffered through was in the jungle's of Malasia, no Land Rover model was recomended as a vehicle of choice in this type of condition. You should use Toyota, Nissen or if you have to, Bitsarmissing. Didn't Land Rover beat all other brands off road racing there, I may be wrong. This show appears to me to be very pro Toyota/Nisson product and to me most times only depicts 2 guys belting s..t out of 2 vehicles that ARB will repair regardless as long as the product looks good and its obvious they dont have to drive to work on Monday. I find the only off road show worth watching at the moment is 4 wheeling, at least they treat the vehicle with respect and catch some very nice fish.

Perhaps a bit of that, but I think it also a case of the vehicles they have access to or at hand at the time. The program seems to be aimed more at those interested in extreme off roading ( the muds & guts brigade ) than touring. They have to have a sponsor, or it wouldn't get to air.

I also do some extreme stuff but this show is so one eyed. Its like looking through an ARB sales book under the heading " Toyota ". As a Land Rover owner I would expect ARB to insist on the interest of a wider audiance than just the asian 4x4 vehicle owners and a better service to those LR owners that buy their product. D3 owners at present in W.A. have to wait up to 8 weeks for a winch bar. Dont think the mining compony Toyota utes wait that long.

It will still come down to commercial realities. The money goes to where the volume is. When the overall sales level of LR products improves, there will be more attention paid to products for us.

To be honest Allan I quite like the 'extreme stuff', or not so much the touring bit.

As for the Landies, yeah well, I have to admit its a bit hard to swallow all the Jap talk, but they did have the Aulro trip one week, and I did watch a sweet trip they did which had a Disco 3 or 4 included, and it got a good bit of air time. Trouble was, one of the sponsors was along in their Kaymar Toyota, which inevitably got a lot of screen. All in all though an enjoyable watch.

    cheers

the D3 episode was on austar's Aurora channel last night, the D3 only gets a mention 2 or 3 times, focus is on a stock pathfinder (DPchip), and the Kaymar Landcruiser 200 series mainly, all in all quite boring, well the first section is good, but the following 2 are boring as

the thing that annoyed me most, was the 'tweaking' of angles by tilting the camera to make it look more extreme, but there are trees in the background and it just looks ridiculous, its so obvious

I think any show that focuses on 4x4s of any kind is good.

Best way to watch this show is to record it, fast forward all the ads and garbage filler. Usually the travel/touring and the serious 4x4 bits are pretty good. I just like seeing different bits of oz and sometimes the overseas 4wding.

So maybe 10mins of good stuff out of 30mins of show, thats what FF button is for.

Land rovers are "fringe" vehicles in oz so are never going to feature much in mainstream media. We have our great forum, have some great forum meets and drives, who cares if landrovers aren't on tv? (tho I do get excited when they are on tv haha )
