Just ticked over 400kms; rattle developed today on engine shutdown?

Folks just ticked over 400 kms and the car really does drive nice. I notice I have a slight pause in power when accelerating in second if revs are a little low, this could be turbo lag? The more concerning issue was a rattle AFTER engine is shut off, I feel it's tied in with what feels like some slack with clutch and gear changes, if you let the clutch out a little fast it makes the change rough.

What would the rattle be on engine switch off?
I had completed a 100km trip when it did it, it may have dome it too on a gear change from 2nd to 3rd.

    Thanks in advance

pc,,,,,,,i,ve just clocked 5oo k in mine ,,110wagon,,,,, has a few squeeks ,but no shutdown rattle,,,,,,,, have noticed rough gear engadgement on occasion,, i put it down to driver error ,,,,, drove proffessionally for tnt for over a decade and the box is good but requires positive selection in my opinion,,,,,, it does behave more like a truck/commercial g-box than a passenger car,and i figure this is a good thing ,,,,,, 1st gear is particularly low ,,this is superb for offroad ,,but demands once again positive selection of 2nd - 3rd and so on......one could assume the box may wear in a touch!!. i may be way off the mark here ,,because this is my 2nd l/r in 20 yrs but i know my g/boxs ,cheers

ps; i find the donk great it just lives at 2000rpm ,,any more appears a waste...short shift......less is more...

buy yourself a tube ,,sikaflex/silastic ,,,,,,and cure the floor of swiss cheese syndrome,,,,,,dust/water /mud.

I think the motor is very good as well, gear changes are clunky if I don't do the change the way it likes, you can't let the clutch out really quickly or it does it. The rattle on shutdown is the concern sounds like when you shake a nut or bolt in a empty Milo tin. Yes the motor works great at 2k I am impresses with the rig I just know there will be a few little teething issues cause that's defenders as a general rule

    If so it's the EGR.

Hmmm - if is is 400 Kms, then it must be a Puma, so then it will be the EGR cycling.

It if is 400,000Kms, then who knows!!

Yeh may be similar from the drivers side sounds like a bolt spinning in a tin. It's only after motor just shuts off. If it is egr what does this part do and how long to fix it at the dealers?

It cycles 5 times to clear things out or something. This is by design, so dealer will not need to fix it. Lucky hey!

Agree with spudboy the noise is a "thack, thack, thack" it will be your EGR valve doing what LR call a "self clean" funny since they play up by getting jamed.??

The other noise you hear, could be typical drive line chatter most defenders do it either if the clutch is released bad or when fully loaded on a big hill and you punch the clutch in or stall it! It doesn't sounld good

    Cheers,
