    Long Range Tank prices?

I've just had a ballpark quote from my local 4X4 place on two different tanks for our 96 Deefer:

    LRA 125L replacement $1300 fitted

Long Ranger 120L replacement $1200 fitted

Am I getting a decent deal?

Also, I assume these things fit okay with a Hayman Reece tow kit?

    That sounds about right.

There was a guy on ebay recently manufacturing long range tanks for a range of 4WDs and his were around the $700-$800 + fitting.

A cheaper option to try to achieve near the same capacity is to retain the original tank and fit the small tank that goes under the rear RHS guard (about 35 litre capacity depending on model chosen). Long Range Automotive ake one, and Dolium & Opposite lock import the South African one from FRONT RUNNER 4x4 :: Roof Racks, 4x4 Accessories South Africa, Rooftop Tents, Car Fridges, Extra Fuel Tanks, Winches, Towbars

South Africa Post will post up to 30kg, so if you have a friend in SA, it may be cheaper to get one sent over.

I always thought Long Range tanks were too expensive, and for that price, I'd just carry a couple of Jerry cans. But now that I own a Defender with 150litre fuel capacity, I'd easily spend the money on a long range tank for a future vehicle. It means you don't risk getting dirty or expensive fuel in out of the way places, you only refuel once a month around town, and you can drive all day without having to stop for fuel, which means your lunch stops can be in a national park instead of a town. Also there's no risk of fuel on hands and clothes from refuelling in the bush.

I think OxExplor do belly tanks(Site vendor). Adding two of these and keeping your original you'd carry more fuel.

The original tank is split, hence a new one Although I have been thinking of getting an aux tank as well as the replacement

    Hey Treads,

I had a LRA (Long range Automotives) tank fitted in May this year to my PUMA. Cost was 1,100 for the tank and $255 for fitting. Total $1355.00

Capacity is 135Lt and can be fitted with the standard tow bar. The tank is very well made and the fit is neat

The fuel range now is well over 1000km on the highway and couldn't be happier.

I have put in a Poly rv auxilary diesel tank and a pump. It holds an extra 130 litres and I pump into my ome tank when it's low. It's under the tray all up I have 205 litres capacity.

I wanted to forgo having to gave Jerry cans on the back on my hunting trips.

All up with tank, pump and fitting it owes me around$600

Take out the tank and have it repaired or take it to a sheet metal fabricator to get a quote to copy it or made deeper for extra capacity. Bellbird sheet metal in Taragindi Brisbane previously made land rover fuel tanks.

Long Ranger also do an 80litre sill tank, you do however loose the box under the drivers seat.
